We are delighted to share our latest volunteer day adventure! This was one was extra special, since COVID restrictions did not allow us to volunteer in 2020. This year we stuck with the old formula, spending the morning in the fields before heading to the food bank. However, we visited a new garden and had a wonderful time with Earth’s Table Garden Manager, Pete Terpenning. He explained the ins-and-outs of managing such an intricate garden while we picked and gleaned crops, dismantled trellises, and prepared beds for planting.
We wrapped up the morning after completing a successful experience in this garden and felt accomplished with our tasks. It was another 90+ degree day in Colorado, so we were ready to move onto Community Food Share, where we would be welcomed by air conditioning and shade.
At Community Food Share, in nearby Louisville, we found ourselves split into two groups. One group of three worked on sorting fruits, veggies, and berries.
The other group of four was stationed in the freezer, where they bagged, weighed, and packaged up boxes of beans.
Again, it was a productive afternoon in the warehouse, and we were grateful to be able to participate in another year of volunteering! If you are local to the Boulder area and feel inclined to volunteer at either organization, here are the websites you can follow:
