TWC Wraps Up the Summer with a Day of Volunteering

Our team at TWC was fortunate to be able to spend one of the last days of summer volunteering in our local community. It’s become somewhat of a tradition for us to dedicate a day to volunteering our services to organizations that bring great resources and value to the community of Boulder and beyond. Again, similar to years past, we spent our morning at Earth’s Table (a local garden in Boulder that harvests vegetables to be donated to local food banks) and our afternoon at Community Food Share (a local food bank that aims to eliminate hunger through service, partnership, and collaboration).

Our morning at Earth’s Table including picking some of the last harvests of the season, as summer was nearing its end and the plants may not survive the chilly mornings to come. We were able to pick crates of tomatoes, onions, peppers, and beets. We spent other parts of the morning tearing up the bean plants, as Earth’s Table will be moving to another location at the end of this year.

Karen, Katie, and Myra, hidden in the bushes, pick through the still-producing garden.

After a fun-filled morning in the Colorado sun, we headed over to Community Food Share, which is just outside of Boulder, in Louisville. We split our duties between repackaging food and bagging vegetables that would be later placed in the market for the taking. The repackaging is necessary because the food donated can come in quite bulky packaging, and needs to be broken down into individual bags so they can be available for those who need them. It just so happened that this day was one of the days that people would be in the facility, which made it all the more fulfilling to know that this food would most likely be taken home that day or later in the week.

All in all, it was a great day spent outside and inside, for all of us. If you’re interested in the volunteer opportunities available through Earth’s Table or Community Food Share, please their websites and discover the impactful ways that they could utilize your time.
