We are thrilled to announce that TWC’s Myra Salzer will speak at TEDxWilmington on August 24, 2016. TEDxWilmington is an independently run TED event designed to spark conversation and connection, both locally and around the world. Created in the spirit of TED’s mission of “ideas worth spreading,” the event will welcome people from a variety of disciplines and cultures for a day of inspiration, engaging ideas, and community.
Myra will speak on the topic that she is most passionate about: the challenges of inherited wealth, and how stereotypes and prejudice affect not just heirs themselves, but all of us. Like other minority groups, inheritors often find themselves the target of prejudice; in this case, wealth prejudice. Often, prejudice is unintended: merely the result of indifference or an avoidance of that which we find different… different race, different physical ability, different ethnicity, different age, etc. Inheritors can find themselves the recipients of a subtle and pervasive prejudice based on a single external attribute: their money. Myra’s talk will focus on the damage of wealth prejudice and the triumphs that can be achieved when that prejudice is overcome. It’s only when we move beyond stereotypes that we can come together to reach for our greatest potential as a community of individuals who all have something worthwhile to share.
