Arriving at least two hours before boarding, waiting in the never-ending TSA line, and sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with your sneezy neighbor – ahhh, the joys of flying. As the flying experience continues to grow into an all-day affair, companies are searching for alternatives to provide customers a more welcoming flying experience.
If you’re a frequent flyer who’s searching for an escape from the hassle that’s engulfed many airports, you may be interested in finding an All-You-Can-Fly airline service. There are a few different styles that are emerging as the way to go.
JetSmarter, which launched in March 2013, has become one of the largest private airlines. They’ve grown to more than 4,000 members, with 16 routes in the United States. The Wall Street Journal reports, “JetSmarter will add five more U.S. routes next month, and plans private-jet shuttle flights between New York and London.”
Working similarly to Uber’s “Ride Share” option, JetSmarter offers seat-sharing (sharing a private jet with other members) on private jets. However, you can also plan an exclusive private jet charter without seat sharing, at a higher price. You’re able to catch a flight on a regularly scheduled trip (included in your membership), or you can pay a separate fee to create a new flight, which can be private or open to sharing – at a decreased price.
Another company trying to simplify private travel is Wheels Up. For a one-time initiation fee (and low annual dues), individuals and families can join the Wheels Up Club. The perks of this membership include guaranteed occupied hourly pricing on a pay-as-you-fly basis (paying only for hours flown), no hidden charges or unnecessary management or service fees, exclusive access to a private fleet of brand new aircraft, and experiencing the renowned Wheels Down lifestyle (as well as events, concierge and partner benefits program).
Wheels Up describes their individual and family membership as “…comfort, convenience, and peace of mind every time you or your loved ones travel. Enjoy flexible scheduling options for last-minute trips and guaranteed availability for can’t-miss events. With a Wheels Up individual or family membership, you can manage your schedule, your budget, and personal engagements, wherever they may take you.”
Private air travel is a growing business that’s tapping into an upper-middle market that desires greater options. These businesses cater to customers who do not wish to purchase a private jet, yet still want a more intimate flying experience. You know, one without the screaming baby to the left and the snoring passenger to your right.
