Film Review – Fishing Naked

TWC client Pete Coggan and his Studio 42 Productions just released their latest movie, Fishing Naked.  It’s a story of two young men from Colorado, Rodney and David (played by Evan Williams of Degrassi and Bronson Pelletier of Twilight). The guys have a simple desire: to find a peaceful stretch of river to fly fish. They equip themselves with a convincing Bigfoot costume to ensure that tourists keep away from the stream, which of course leads to some very entertaining scenarios. The two unite with Jen and Amy (played by Tinsel Korey of Twilight and Elyse Levesque of Stargate Universe), and the flirtatious hijinks ensue!

From the get-go there’s a great, dynamic chemistry among the four, and it carries throughout the film. David is a level-headed guy and loving grandson just looking to have a clear spot to fish. His counterpart and best friend, Rodney, is a reckless and carefree hooligan who doesn’t mind wearing the Bigfoot costume and spending his downtime imbibing. The pair is perfectly complimented by Jen and Amy, two outgoing yet coy young women escaping their overbearing, upper-middle-class homes in exchange for a teepee (albeit a swanky one). Other notable performances in the film come from Elaine Miles (Northern Exposure), who plays David’s quirky, pot-smoking Grandma Ottertale, and Steve Reevis (Fargo), who plays Arthur, the sheriff of the tight knit mountain town.

Pete Coggan and his production crew chose to use the actual, beautiful scenery of Colorado rather than fake green screens, which is a breath of fresh air in an age full of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) and digitally-made landscapes.  This allowed the film to feel more realistic, resulting in an amazing sense of place. It was fun to be able to recognize some of the filming locations, such as the Rocky Mountain Angler shop located right here in Boulder, and the quaint downtown of Nederland up in the hills to the West of our office. The small bit of CGI that is used in the film played well with the actors and is adds perfectly to the already zany and fun storyline. The conservative use of CGI never takes you out of the story (as poorly used CGI effects can often do).

All in all, Fishing Naked is a lighthearted comedy full of outrageous pranks and young romance that audiences won’t be able to help but laugh through. It’s truly no wonder that Fishing Naked has been met with such success as it opened with screenings in Santa Cruz, CA on May 29th and 30th. More showings will follow in Beverly Hills, Chicago, Kansas City, Juneau, Cincinatti, Burlington, and Portland, and many more are being added daily!  Make sure to check out the Fishing Naked Facebook page for more showing updates. The film will also be available on iTunes and other VOD (Video-On-Demand) platforms on June 2nd, so be sure to (pre)order now!

It is truly such a wonderful experience to watch our clients pursue their dreams. We are so happy for – and proud of – Pete and 42 Productions’ continued success.  We eagerly await whatever follows.  Pete admits that this has definitely been one of his riskier ventures, but TWC has been happy to support him by managing some of his assets so he could be freed up to focus on his passion.

From all of us here at TWC, keep chasing those orbs, Pete, and may they take you to fun, unknown, and happy places in your life. Congrats!
